Making Dreams Come True, Digital Downloads, and more!

Today is Tuesday and that means that Stampin’ Up! Has just released some new digital downloads. In honor of this, I wanted to feature a project that I have made using My Digital Studio, the digital crafting software that Stampin’ Up! developed. In a few weeks I will be rolling out a new website and plans to grow my love of stamping into my career. I thought some framed inspiration in my office would be perfect as I make this transition. Take a peek…

So quick and easy to use My Digital Studio (or mds for short) to make projects! While this image was inserted as a single “stamp”, there is the ability to swap out colors, add a plain or printed background paper, or even to break apart the stamp. What do I mean by that? Let’s say you are making a wedding or anniversary card and you want to make a card with the name of the bride and groom…you could use the ampersand from this stamped image. Just imagine if you are the bride and are making little thank you notes to accompany your favors…so easy to take the ampersand and use it with some text in creating a beautiful note from you and your groom. The possibilities are endless!

Interested in replicating this project? The download I used for it is: Can’ts into Cans (item 130007) and is available for just $1.95. That is less than the price of buying a store bought card and you can use the image again and again and again!

Stampin’ Up! is releasing a new version of MDS studio later this year and when you purchase MDS now, you will be receive version 2 once it becomes available for FREE. Want to try before you buy? Click here for a free trial of the express version of MDS.

And, a reminder that today is the last day of the “reason to smile” promotion…Reason To Smile

If you have yet to try out digital crafting, do consider it!

All the best,

Mojo Monday 252: Cupcake Builder Birthday Card

The last Monday of the month is always fun with the Mojo Monday sketch challenge. This is the week each month that we are challenged to create either a round or square card (or both!)…always fun to make a different sized card than the usual 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ rectangular one.

Our ink cartridges have been refilled (not a drop of ink left was left in any of them) and I can show you both the sketch with my measurements and the card I created. Here you go…

Today I dared to be a little risky and pull out my Whisper White Craft ink…I say risky since I used it for the sentiment after adhering everything to the card. And a little risky also since the “happy birthday” greeting that I choose is so small (the set is called Teeny Tiny Wishes so no surprise that it is petite) rather than a large bold image which I often prefer when using my craft ink. Because craft ink is wetter than the classic ink, you do have to be careful and make sure it dries toughly before touch it so that you do not put a nice smudge on your creation.

This card could certainly be given to either a male or a female recipient…sometimes it seems a little harder to find masculine card samples. If you ask me, this one definitely works.

Ingredient list: card stock in lucky limeade (122926), island indigo (122923), night of navy (100867), old olive (100702), rich razzleberry (115316), naturals white (102316) and soft suede (115318); summer smooches designer series paper (125409); cupcake builder punch (121807), teeny tiny wishes stamp set (115370 wood / 127802 clear), and whisper white craft pad (101731).

A Beautiful Butterflies Gift Tag

What better to coordinate with a handmade card than a handmade gift tag? The one shown below coordinates with the card I made for you all to see on Monday. A perfect way to use up some of the scraps of paper and the other butterflies that were cut when I made the card.

To attach it to a gift bag I simply added some of the 1/2″ seam binding ribbon in daffodil delight (item 125583). Ruffled Ribbon for a bow and some Baker’s Twine would also be an excellent option for this purpose…both are available in the Iimited time In Colors that were used for this project.

Also as was the case with my Mojo Monday 251 card entry, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to affix the butterflies which adds some interest to the gift tag…if you notice the shadows in the third picture above, that is due to the slight height added by the dimensionals.

Fabric Fun! A Flirtatious Handmade Wreath

A couple weeks ago I decided to put together a fabric wreath that I want to share with all of you. The inspiration for this came from a picture a friend had posted on Facebook. I decided to try my hand at making one!

Off I went to the local crafting store to find a wreath form and I realized that a simple wire wreath would be perfect. I tried a bit with different sized fabric strips and decided that a 3″ by 6″ strip worked best and I folded each strip twice (the new dimensions became 3/4″ by 6″) before knotting to the wire frame. And I kept knotting until I ran out of fabric! Here are a few photos for you.

When making the wreaths I used one package of the Stampin’ Up! Flawless Fabric in the Flirtatious print (item 122335) and one 8″ wire wreath frame from my local big box crafting store. The total cost for the wreath was about $12 which is an absolute bargain when you look at the cost of a store bought wreath! You can certainly use a larger or smaller frame and may need more or less fabric depending on what size frame you select.

Also, I pre-cut all of my fabric strips using a rotary cutter and washed them in a lingerie bag first. This gives the fabric the slightly frayed edges…and you will definitely have some loose threads to trim from the strips before you get started with knotting. To achieve a balanced look, I sorted my fabric into three piles and consistently tied on each pattern in turn. While I did not keep close track, I think the knotting on took less than an hour to do.

This wreath is currently hanging on the outside of our bathroom door but I think it will soon make its way into my daughters’ room. I have some Spice Cake fabric on the way and will be making another wreath for the bathroom.
